
It’s a worthy aim to pull back the curtains of distraction and deception that hide our better selves. Lifting the veils of illusion is an ancient goal, and a concept far older than fraternal metaphors about blindness and sight.
With all that said, Odd Fellowship does something admirable in the way that it lifts some of life’s veils, and reveals important teaching. Odd Fellowship admits that true sight rarely happens the instant we discover something new.
Even with newfound knowledge, we still don’t know what we don’t know, especially when it comes to seeing from a new perspective. What helps, and what Odd Fellowship does well, is giving the learner some variety of voices to frame and explain what is newly revealed.

All of us, Odd Fellows or uninitiated, benefit from the diverse insights of our human village: elders who have taken the journey and who can give long term perspective, leaders who know how to care for and inspire community, peers who can encourage and relate, and those with differences who can challenge us with unexpected outlooks.

A well rounded council helps us to understand how new information is relevant – personally, practically, spiritually, and communally.
Consider where a loving and varied community has helped you to process information in the past. And also consider where that could happen in the future.
How complete is your council when life reveals its truths to you each day? Are your guides diverse and balanced? What voices might be missing when framing the knowledge you discover? It’s natural for revelations to sometimes jar us, like a bright light before our eyes are fully ready to adjust. But as we strive to see with more clarity than confusion, let’s remember the value that a loving and well rounded collective provides in giving us deeper understanding.
