Odd Fellowship reminds us that our precious days are numbered. I hope you find that message more exciting than ominous, because it’s not meant as a hopeless warning. Instead, it is a loving reminder to all of us that now is the best time to do anything worth doing. If we truly understand that fact, then what holds each of us back from seizing the day? To be fair, in this modern world, answers to that question can be complex. Too often though, the reason is sadly simple. What holds us back from making dreams into reality is that we are waiting for perfection.
The artist never begins the painting because they can only envision part of the picture. The writer never submits the manuscript because they can’t fully imagine achieving success. The seeker never joins a community, because not every aspect fits like a glove. The would-be traveler puts off exploration because the timing doesn’t seem quite right.
In our imperfect world, we may never feel that we have the perfect measure of time, health, wealth, balance or confidence. But the result of remaining frozen in place, waiting for perfection, is that the world is robbed of the beauty, inspiration, fellowship, and wonder that we could bring into it. Every positive potential we don’t try to make into reality, is a loss.
A step forward is progress, whether or not it is the final destination, and something can not be improved, until it first exists. What positive leap do you dream of taking? Make the leap my friends.
This writing is not to dissuade you from seeking high standard, growth, or betterment from yourselves or others. All of those things are vital to a meaningful life. My message here is not to let perfection stand in the way of action. Even actions that appear small can be life changing!
